Josh, his friend Chris and I (and of course Quasi dog) decided to walk to Alki Beach and experience the West Seattle's Sea Fair. Some of you might not know that I am a pirate myself. For the past few years I have named myself a Pirate historian. "Under The Black Flag" is a favorite book. Something about life on the seas and adventure calls to me. However, I do get sea-sick.
Josh, Chris and I walked to the Sea Fair, spent two hours there. The pirates were running late and the "host of the ceremonies" who was the "king" of Alki....tried to stall by making jokes. The army that was "protecting" Alki Beach consisted of high school students from the looks of it. The most entertaining part of the day, besides watching the Pirates land and crash into the ocean (the Pirate Captain was carried by his crew over the water, preventing him from getting wet) was the local that we (Josh) started chatting up. He was mentioning that in the past the Pirates were usually drunk coming off of the landing vessel.
The walk home was LONG. Later, our friend Chris found out we probably walked a total of 10 miles. It was lovely however. Quasi thought we were insane and stopped numerous times. She asked to go into the ocean but, Josh had to let her know this was not that trip...another time maybe. We were also lucky enough to stroll down California, which is the main street here in W.S. This past weekend the West Seattle Summer Festival was also happening. I was thrilled Josh said I could buy a Rat City Roller Derby tank top! And one of the players invited us to the game! Ohhhh yeah!
When we got back we realized we successfully tired out the dog and then gorged ourselves at West 5. This West Seattle spot is fantastic. The food was great, the beer was tasty and most of all the happy hour prices made us happy.
Sea Fair apparently lasts a few weeks with various parades and grand things happening with the climax being The Blue Angels flying over Seattle's Elliot Bay. We have not run out of entertaining things to do, that's for sure. And the loud annoying girl in the videos cheering and screaming for the Pirates, well that's me.
